Kute 2.1 release notes: what is live today

Short answer. Kute 2.1 is a redesign. It brings one spending wallet for Bitcoin, Lightning and dollars, hardware wallets beside it, and Ask Sal for plain answers. Version 2.1.0 came out on 1 October 2026 and 2.1.1 on 7 October 2026. We are doing the final tests of the next update, 2.1.2.

A 2-minute tour of the new Kute design.

Here is what you get when you install Kute today, on Android. We only list what is live. When 2.1.2 comes out, we will post its notes here.

The short version: Kute is now one self-custody money app with a new layout. The Google Play notes call it "a redesigned Kute". You get paid, pay people and keep savings apart, all in one place.

A redesigned Kute

The app now has one spending wallet at its center. Your Bitcoin, your Lightning payments and your Dollars live there. Hardware wallets, watch-only wallets and tracked addresses sit next to it, each with its own balance and activity.

Bitcoin and Lightning

  • Every wallet has a Lightning address at paykute.com. You can edit the name. See what a Lightning address is.
  • Receive shows one QR with a Bitcoin address and a Lightning option. You can switch to Bitcoin only or Lightning only, or make a Lightning invoice for an exact amount.
  • Send works in two steps: review, then confirm. The app sends exactly what you reviewed.
  • For on-chain payments, you pick fast, medium or slow speed and see the fee first.
  • Payments below 1,000 sats work.
  • The main screen no longer says "sats".

Dollars next to Bitcoin

Keep a dollar balance next to your Bitcoin. Move between the two, and see the quote and fees before you confirm (Google Play listing).

Hardware wallets

Connect a supported hardware wallet, sign with QR, or follow an existing wallet with a watch-only import. Kute works with Ledger, Blockstream Jade, Keystone, Krux, Passport and SeedSigner (Kute FAQ). Read hot wallet vs hardware wallet for how to use them together.

Ask Sal

Sal is the dog in the app. Ask in your own words what a fee is or what a line in your activity means. Sal gives factual answers, never a recommendation, and cannot see your keys or move money.

Privacy and small things

  • Kute 2.1 removed the permission for the Android advertising ID.
  • Triple-tap the wallet to hide your balance. This helps on video calls.

Known issue in 2.1.1

On Android, version 2.1.1 can fail when you create a new wallet with a passkey. The fix is in 2.1.2. Until 2.1.2 comes out, create your wallet with 12 words. Then back them up with our guide on how to back up your 12 words.

Still coming

A bank account, IBAN and card are coming soon. Payment by link to someone with no wallet is coming soon too. Some features depend on your country, and the app tells you when one is not available where you are.

Want to see the app before you install it? Try the interactive demo on the home page. It uses sample money.
